 Tech layoffs have now become a trend, as almost every company is reporting job cuts every other month. Adding to the list, the Seattle-based travel giant Expedia Group has carried out another round of layoffs this week. While the company has not disclosed the exact number of employees affected, LinkedIn posts from impacted staff suggest the layoffs have touched several departments, including engineering. Expedia Group owns a portfolio of popular travel brands, including Vrbo, Orbitz, Hotwire, Trivago, Hotels.com, and its flagship site Expedia.com . Expedia feels pinch of drop in inbound U.S. travel, Canada bookings fall 30% in Q1

 While Expedia Group’s results in the first quarter of 2025 fell within its guidance range, but the company felt a pinch as travel demand softened in the United States and inbound travel dipped, with bookings from Canada falling by almost 30%. “U.S. demand was soft, driven by declining consumer sentiment, and we felt pressure on key inbound U.S. corridors,” Ariane Gorin, CEO of Expedia Group, said on the company’s call with financial analysts Thursday evening. Scott Schenkel, chief financial officer of Expedia Group , spoke about the U.S. demand headwind, noting that two thirds of the company’s business comes from the U.S. point of sale. “We also noticed softness in demand for inbound travel into the U.S., which was down 7%.
