American Airlines Announces 8 New Routes for Winter 2025-26, Including Punta Cana Service from 4 U.S. Cities

American Airlines has unveiled a major expansion for the winter 2025-26 season, with the launch of eight new routes, including four nonstop flights to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. This marks a significant move for the airline, offering travelers more options to popular vacation destinations and ski getaways.

New Nonstop Flights to Punta Cana

Among the most notable additions is the launch of four new nonstop routes from the U.S. to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic. These flights will operate on Saturdays starting December 6, 2025, linking Punta Cana to four medium-sized U.S. cities: Indianapolis (IND), Nashville (BNA), Pittsburgh (PIT), and Raleigh-Durham (RDU). Each of these routes will be operated with a Boeing 737.

American’s new Punta Cana routes will face minimal competition, with Southwest Airlines offering limited flights from Nashville and Avelo Airlines recently adding a route from Raleigh-Durham. These new flights cater to increasing demand for travel to the Dominican Republic, a popular destination for all-inclusive resorts, including the newly opened W property as part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.

New International Service from Oklahoma

Another exciting development in the announcement is American Airlines’ new service from Oklahoma City (OKC) to Cancun International Airport (CUN) starting November 8, 2025. This marks the first international service from Oklahoma, filling a gap in the state’s flight options and offering Oklahomans a long-awaited international travel connection. The route will operate once a week on Saturdays, providing easy access to Cancun’s popular beaches and resorts.

New Domestic Routes for Ski and Beach Getaways

American Airlines is also introducing several domestic routes, including a new connection between its Charlotte hub (CLT) and Aspen, Colorado (ASE), starting December 19, 2025. This flight caters to skiers and winter travelers looking to reach the popular ski destination with ease.

Additionally, two new domestic routes will launch in October: Los Angeles (LAX) to Des Moines, Iowa (DSM) and Phoenix (PHX) to Little Rock, Arkansas (LIT), both of which were previously suspended in 2021. These routes aim to strengthen American’s presence in key U.S. cities and provide more options for travelers.

Boosted Service and Extended Routes

American is also increasing service on popular international routes. The airline will add a second daily nonstop flight from Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) to Kahului, Maui (OGG), starting November 22, 2025. In December, American will also add extra weekly flights to destinations in South America, including São Paulo (GRU) and Buenos Aires (EZE).

Additionally, seasonal services will be extended, including the New York (JFK) to Barcelona (BCN) route through December 2 and the Philadelphia (PHL) to Athens (ATH) route through November 17. The DFW to Dublin (DUB) route will also be extended through the winter holidays, catering to the increasing demand for transatlantic travel during the off-peak season.
