Delta agrees to reimburse alternative travel as cancellations drop and recovery ramps up

By noon ET on Wednesday, the airline posted just 47 cancellations and 399 delays, according to Flight Aware. That’s compared to 511 total cancellations on Tuesday and 1,160 on Monday. On Wednesday, American Airlines had more canceled flights than Delta. The airline also clarified and expanded its reimbursement guidelines for customers who were affected by the meltdown. https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-engage/delta-what-is-delta-cancellation-hotline But that doesn’t mean the crisis is over in Atlanta. Now, the possibly harder work of reaccommodating passengers whose flights were previously canceled, reuniting travelers with their bags and restoring the airline’s rosy reputation must begin. “When you have 75% of your daily schedule either delayed or canceled, that’s pretty much a crisis, and I don’t think they’ve owned it, quite frankly,” William J. McGee, senior fellow for aviation and travel at the American Economic Liberties Project, told USA TODAY.  https:/...

Expedia, Airbnb and Booking Comply With California Junk Fee Law — But in Different Ways

Now you know why online travel companies do so much A/B testing. The whole world seems to depend on whether a price disclosure is in a bold or light font. Fee transparency is being put to its own test in California. https://community.expensify.com/discussion/43524/how-do-i-speak-to-a-human-on-expedia-live-agent/p1?new=1 The Big Three travel booking sites — Booking.com, Airbnb, and Expedia/Vrbo — all appear to be complying with California’s new junk fee transparency law. But the way they are doing it varies considerably. The new law, which became effective this week, requires travel sellers and others to display the total price, including mandatory fees, upfront. They don’t have to show taxes on first view. https://community.expensify.com/discussion/43634/how-do-i-speak-to-a-human-on-expedia-call-expedia-%EF%B8%8F/p1?new=1 However, Expedia.com is displaying the total cost upfront in bold, including fees and taxes, for hotels. Airbnb, Booking.com and Vrbo do not show the total rate ...

Ailing Spirit Airlines drops some junk fees in hopes of drawing travelers

Spirit Airlines, known for its cheap fares and à la carte flight upgrades, is rolling out another perk it hopes will draw travelers: fewer fees.  https://community.expensify.com/discussion/12589/what-is-the-cheapest-day-to-book-a-ticket-on-amtrak/p1?new=1 In May, the Miramar, Florida-based carrier stopped charging customers for canceling and changing flights, a move Spirit executives expect will pay off despite the loss of fee revenue. The airline also increased the weight for checked bags from 40 pounds to 50 pounds, the industry standard. Although the airline's domestic business is growing, it saw a dip in traffic for international flights in the first quarter, federal transportation data shows. "What we've seen over time is that less people are actually flying on Spirit," Matt Klein, the airline's chief commercial officer, told CBS News senior transportation correspondent Kris Van Cleave. "So we believe the changes we're making are about attracting ne...
